HIRA: Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment
When engaging with my PLN, most of the topics are high level. Key performance indicators and Injury/illness rate is all great information but these topics are not inclusive to those who are new in the profession. Basic risk assessment is not only great for those starting out in the profession, but refresher information to those who have been doing it for a while. Many regulatory establishments require Hazard Identification and risk assessments to be performed on a regular basis and when there is a change in work. These are not only the responsibility of the Safety person, but all area managers are required to perform risk assessments.
The five steps for health and safety risk assessment from the video you shared really is universally relevant across every profession. Whether a person is in construction, healthcare, education, manufacturing, or office administration, the process of identifying hazards, considering who might be affected, evaluating risk, implementing controls, and documenting findings is important to maintaining a safe environment. The principles aren’t limited to traditional “high-risk” fields, any workplace, from a hospital to a tech startup, benefits from this structured approach to proactively managing risks and protecting people! Great share, Kyle.
