More Thoughts on PLN's
As I think more about PLN's and their value to a profession, I can't help but realize the value that I can pass on to others looking into my profession. From new graduates to those looking for a new start in a new profession, a PLN would be a great starting point. If I were to have known about PLN's as someone who was changing careers, the transition and learning phase would have been a lot shorter. Surrounding yourself with individuals who hold knowledge that you want to add is invaluable. Gaining knowledge from forms of learning besides formal, structured learning environments such as tacit learning from those in a PLN is a great resource in ones professional development.
I absolutely agree! I have used places like LinkedIn as a place to collect information about the profession I am currently in and how to best do my job. I was not much on blogging or looking at blogs for this type of information, as I have never had much interaction with them before, and therefore did not understand how valuable using them to build upon my PLN could be. Feedly has been a game-changer for me as I am not much for looking through multiple websites very often, and this allows me to curate my own interests into one place, which is not how LinkedIn and other social sites work. I feel like this site will help me stay on top of what I am interested in and not feed me a bunch of ads or rabbit holes to go down, helping conserve my mental energy for things that matter.
ReplyDeleteHey there! I really like how you’ve been thinking about how PLN’s can benefit you and your industry circles. You know what would be really cool? If you map your thinking and steps you take to build your PLN. That way, readers could get ideas of their own, launching off of your work, to help build their own PLN when it feels daunting or overwhelming.
