Writing strong blogs

In my research finding points in creating strong blogs, a couple things stood out. Using strong headers for long posts, use data to support your topic (and opinion on the topic), be specific on objectives and expectations of the blog, and break up words with pictures that support your stance on a topic.

Headlines Matter

Most of the research I did came to the same points when writing a strong blog, headlines matter. A good length of your time needs to go into coming up with a strong headline and first 100 words to grasp the readers attention. If the first section of your blog is boring, they may lose interest and move on. Wait until your blog is finished and re-read it to help your mind land on a strong headline.

Data is King

Well, this is a class about technology, right?! Anyone can give their opinion on a subject, but when you can back up your thoughts and opinions with solid applicable data. Whether that be trends or indicators, grabbing the readers attention with numbers and quantitative data, they are more likely to be engaged.

Paint a Picture

Using words to create an image is great, but adding an actual image can break up the monotony of words and give the reader another form of expression.

Wrap-Up

I look forward to this semester in creating my own style of blog posts. It will be interesting to compare some of my first posts this semester to my last. I hope my style of blogs adapts and enhances throughout the semester and I can use this technology to my benefit.
